Tournament Poker for advanced Players, David Sklansky
This book deals exclusively with Tournament Poker. As the title suggests it is for advanced players so it contains no poker rules. Most concepts are explained based on examples of Texas Hold'em poker but there are also many Omaha and 7 Card Stud examples included. The book explains the really important aspects of tournaments in a clear and understandable way! These are: "The Gap Concept, position, Limping, playing against short stacks and large stacks, changes in the value of chips during a tournament, impact of the prize money structure at the tactical play, tactical play at multi-table tournaments, heads-up situations, considerations for re-buys, etc. Generally, a lot of tactical nuances are explained which caused numerous ‘light bulb’ moments for the reviewer. There are even situations in which it makes sense to fold AA! This book is an absolute must for every tournament player who does not only play for fun but with ambition! In contrast to Sklansky’s book described previously this one seems to have had the help of a professional writer. Thus, the book is well structured and an enjoyable read for those with a good command of English! Tip for more advanced players: read the Harrington series before reading this book!
