Multi Table Rebuy Strategy
Multitable Rebuy Tournaments and normal Multitable Tournaments differ from each other in two ways:
1. You may rebuy Chips, this implies you apply a good 'Buying Strategy'
2. The strategy during the Rebuy Phase is slightly different than in a normal Tournament Game
1. Rebuy and Add-On Strategy
General Hints for Rebuy-Tournaments considering the purchase of extra of chips:
- Set your limit of rebuys before the tournament. If the number of rebuys is limited, calculate with the maximum.
- The 5th point of our Dos & Don'ts also applies for rebuys. Add up all the rebuys!
- It is a huge advantage to be chip leader in a tournament. Use your first possible chance in the first hand, to rebuy!
- It usually does not make sense taking part in a rebuy tournament, if you are not willing to rebuy!
General Tips for the Add-On, see Poker Vokabulary:
- It usually is a good choice to invest in an optional Add-On at the end of the rebuy phase. If you have piles of chips and are by far the chip leader you might want to think about not making use of the add-on. If you are a medium or shortstack, then make use the Add-On. Exception: You feel tired, not concentrated, or you feel you are simply outclassed by your opposition. Then you should not invest any more money.
2. Strategy during the Rebuy-Phase:
- As all players have the option of rebuying, your opponents will generally be playing much loser and will be taking more risks. Folding equity generally is much lower than in a normal Tournament.
- Do not bluff as much as you would do in a normal tournament.
- Your opponents will not be capable of laying down AA etc. even when the flop is potentially dangerous. Suited Connectors and Small Pocket Pairs are playable, if there is not much preflop raising at your table. The implied odds you are getting with these Hole Cards are higher than in normal Tournaments.
- If you have a preflop monster, i.e. AA or KK, then raise more aggressively than you would do in a normal tournament. Example: If you usually raise to 4x the big blind with a hand like that and get an average 1 caller, you might even be getting an average two callers in a rebuy tournament. During the first couple of blind Levels, raise to 10% of the average stack if you decide to raise preflop. At Pokerroom this would be a raise to 150 Chips (big blind 20) as not to get too many callers.
- An other successful strategy can be to limp with AA and then reraise raisers All-In with AA or KK. Quite often, your opponents will be prepared to gamble with mediocre hands like TT, AQ etc.
- Do not raise preflop with marginal hands, because the chance of being reraised is higher than in a normal tournament.
Strategy after the rebuy phase:
There are no differences to normal Multitable-Strategy, except that the average stacks will be much higher than in a normal tournament at this stage. The situation is similar to a deep stack tournament. After the rebuy phase often players revert to very tight strategy. In our experience during the first orbit after the rebuy phase it is worth stealing the blinds as you might get less resistance as you usually would.
