Daniel 'Kid Poker' Negreanu is one of the world’s best tournament poker players. He has won three bracelets at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and in 2004 was nominated the WSOP Player of the Year. Various successes at WSOP circuit events and the World Poker Tour (WPT) bear witness to his ability. He is undoubtedly a man who has a good knowledge of Texas Hold'em and can communicate it well. Thus we are reviewing his book.
Negreanu’s book is divided into 50 tips each having its own chapter. The book has a total of only 168 pages. One can imagine that it is not possible to go into very much detail when one summarizes Texas Hold'em Poker in such a short space. However, he manages to explain important subjects (e.g. the top 10 mistakes, the value of suited cards, bankroll management, position, pot odds) concisely and precisely hitting the nail on the head. This book is highly recommendable for players at the beginning of their poker careers who do not want to work through a 600 paged tome but rather have bedtime reading to improve their game. Negreanu expects that the reader has already played Texas Hold'em a couple of times. The cost of under 10 $ will pay for itself! The book contains no rules of the game nor hand rankings or anything like that. Attention: Advanced poker players with an average knowledge of English will be able to read quickly through this book (the reviewer took two evenings) and will hardly find anything which they do not already know or which helps to improve their game in any way.
Negreanu’s second work “More Hold'em Wisdom for of All Players” is planned for February 2008. Hopefully, this will contain some pearls of wisdom for advanced players.
