On over 220 pages professional Sit 'n Go player Collin Moshman explains the essentials. The book deals exclusively with Sit & Go poker tournaments optimizing one’s own ‘Expected Value’ and not the number of chips won. In order to explain this he teaches the reader to understand that the value of additional chips won in a tournament steadily decreases (Independent Chip Model) because the prize money is not linear to the increase in the number of chips. This in turn leads to the overall optimum strategy in the three main stages of a tournament: Low Blind Play, Mid Blind Play and High Blind Play. Specific phases such as the one just before the prize money (Bubble) and shortly after reaching the prize money are also illuminated. In particular in the Bubble-play section he reveals how to play when you are the Short Stack, the 2nd shortest Stack etc. optimally.
The reader learns what in which situation needs the player’s attention. Using concrete examples he shows how to put his ideas into practice. It is impressive how Moshman preaches incredibly aggressive poker. After reading this book you should not necessarily rush out to a big Sit & Go as you would play too aggressively! The book should be worked through at least twice before applying the author’s ideas with ‘real’ money. In our experience (*cough*) the hasty implementation of over aggressive poker ends in tears. So read the book twice and then apply with success!
In the concluding chapter 'Career Play' Moshman explains how one should approach Multitabling, which choice of table or seat can influence the results and last but not least what stakes should be played (i.e. bankroll management).
The book was published in April 2007 and for any serious Sit & Go player it is money well invested!
Anyone who thinks he knows all about Sit & Go’s should still look at this book. Moshman’s ideas on the way to play short stack will make you sit up and take notice!
